I think manual defrags are extremely time consuming, i prefer to set the program to run automatically and be able to use the PC. Scheduled tasks sometimes fail to run, so an automatic defragmenter is a good option especially for large drives on which the Windows defragger may take hours.

Defraging just ONE file does NO good in speeding up your computer. In order to get the full benefit of defragmentation, you must defrag your entire disc.
Please tell me what you are attempting to accomplish by just defraging one file?
Defragmenting your hard drive is meant to clean up your computer so that the files are not fragmented ( broken up and spread all over the place ) on your drive. When they are fragmented, the computer takes longer to run that program because it has to go all over the place to find the next part of the program. So defragmenting puts the entire file back together, whether it is a data file, music file, application or whatever.
But all defragmenter tools are not created equal!
I have found that the Windows Defragmenter does not do a thorough job. It defrags to ITS liking, but personally, I like to have a complete defrag done when I do one.
I have found a VERY nice FREE defrag tool that does a remarkable job. It is called JKDefrag and can be found at http://www.jkdefrag.com. It goes as far as even placing the files you used most recent to the front of the disc for ease of access.
I suggest you try this out. If you haven’t defraged for awhile, download JKdefrag and unzip. Run the Windows defrag program and just do the analysis. Then run JKdefrag and you will be amazed at the difference.
Windows Defragmentation tool will NOT, in most cases, touch ANY of the Microsoft programs whereas JKdefrag defragments the ENTIRE disc.
